Application of the latest 3D CAD software allows for efficient passage from conceptual to detailed design phase (fabrication drawings and 3D models for structural analysis) ensuring the necessary flexibility to adapt to changing customer needs.
The commercial analytical tools (ANSYS/WORBENCH, STAAD, etc.) as well as a rich library of in-house software allows for analysis and optimisation of structures accordingly to a variety of failure modes including collapse/rupture, ratcheting, fatigue, fracture, buckling and creep. LMC has the ability to analyse mechanical and thermal loadings in linear and non-linear material and contact conditions including large displacement effects.
These analytical abilities cover the majority of typical design challenges, however special requirements may be addressed as well.
LMC pays particular attention to cooperation with shipyards in order to ensure the highest quality final product. LMC places a special importance on the relationship with manufacturers and shipyards, where continuous feedback, monitoring and testing reduces manufacturability issues and increases significantly reliability within the entire lifetime of our design.
LMC can perform anchor selection and design for driven piles, suction piles and drag anchors; design includes installation aid design, driving analysis, retrievability and suction assessments.
All of LMC’s turret and spread moored systems are approved by IACS members. LMC has worked closely with all of the main Classification Societies (ABS, DNV, Bureau Veritas, Lloyds and RINA) on recent projects, has developed a good working relationship with each and is in regular contact regarding updates to international Classification Society standards, rules and regulations.
LMC has an all en-compassing knowledge in mooring system design, including Turret Moorings, Spread Moorings, CALM Buoys, Jetty / Quayside and Vessel Side-by-side Mooring Systems. LMC has designed mooring systems ranging from 17m to 2200m in water depth, and ranging from 6 leg CALM Buoy solutions to 16 leg internal turret moorings systems. Detailed engineering is performed to obtain full Classification Society and Authority approval. Detailed drawings are prepared ready for the fabrication procurement phase. Engineering analysis carried out by LMC will typically cover all aspects from local to global analysis, including full dynamic analysis for strength and fatigue.

Since the design of any riser system is intimately related to the mooring system and vessel behaviour, LMC has developed in-house capabilities to ensure successful design approval to the very highest standards. As a result of LMC’s mooring design and analysis experience, the company has a detailed understanding of the critical nature of the combined system in any floating facility.
LMC has a dedicated mechanical engineering department with expertise in piping, electrical and instrumentation disciplines. This enables LMC to supply a complete turret mooring solution, which is capable of being fully integrated to the vessel and subsea infrastructure.
LMC’s process engineering department has the expertise to specify, supply and integrate all types of process equipment within our turret designs, including Subsea Hydraulic Power Units, Well Control Racks, Chemical Injection & Distribution Panels, Portable Umbilical Pressurisation Systems, Riser Annulus Monitoring Systems and Turret Umbilical Termination Units.
LMC offer engineering and technical support for the procurement of moorings and risers and other key systems within the turret (bearing, swivel, winches, chain stoppers, valves etc.). This can be in the form of acting as Client Representative for technical verification to Third Party Reviewing of Vendor Documents. All engineering design is performed with a strong emphasis on interface and integration.
LMC provide installation engineering and support for mooring and riser installation campaigns. Projects completed in the past range from conceptual FEED to determine best practice methods, through to detailed engineering and simulations including vessel towing, sea-keeping, pull-in and hook up operations. LMC also has a wealth of experience during offshore campaigns acting as both turret and mooring designer and as Client Representative.
