HULL AND PLATFORM DESIGN

NAVAL ARCHITECTURE, SEAKEEPING, HULL AND PLATFORM HYDROSTATICS, HYDRODYNAMICS, AND STABILITY

LMC perform the naval architectural design of ships and bespoke floating platforms and hulls for the offshore floating wind and energy sector. The Naval Architect department supports the project through the complete design of the hull or floating platform, by performing a fully integrated assessment coupled with the structural design to analyse the following:
• Hydrostatics
• Hydrodynamics
• Motions and Seakeeping
• Stability and Hull Strength
• Capacity Plans
• Weight Reports

STATIONKEEPING, MOORING, AND ANCHORING SYSTEM DESIGN

The complete stationkeeping system is fundamental to all floating offshore energy units.

LMC support clients through the complete project life-cycle by performing fully coupled analysis of the mooring solution. Experience includes the use of chain, polyester and nylon components including all forms of ancillaries, clump weights and buoyancy modules. Engineering design and analysis has been performed for water depth ranges of 13m to 2500m, and geographical locations with extreme environmental conditions including Typhoons, Monsoons, Landslides, and Earthquakes, and near-shore and closed moored configurations.

LMC have worked with all of the IACS Classification Societies and have an engrained knowledge of the codes, standards, recommendations and certification requirements required for all aspects of offshore floating units.

For the floating wind and wave sector, LMC perform a complex aero—hydro-elastic-servo coupled analysis of the floating wind platform to analyse and design the platform, towers, and mooring and dynamic power cable system. This methodology allows for the complex interaction between the turbine(s) and wave devices, with the seakeeping and stationkeeping of the platform.

STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING

LMCs structural department is integral to the engineering and design team and has detailed experience of a range of floating bodies from standard ship hulls and barges, to floating wind semi-submersibles and tension leg platforms.

Structural analysis is performed using ANSYS and Staad Pro, supported by in-house drafting and design capabilities using Inventor and 3D AutoCAD.

LMC can support clients with the design of all topside and on-deck structures, from complete flare tower and helideck designs to intricate welding, machining and bolting details of modules and sub-components.
